Guides Who Know the Land

We are not just tour operators. We are wilderness educators, conservation advocates, and storytellers who have spent years learning from the landscapes we share.

Founded in Curiosity

maple-egret began in 2019 when three wilderness guides realized they were tired of leading rushed, checklist-style tours. We wanted to create something slower, more attentive, where questions were welcomed and detours became discoveries.

What started as weekend hikes with friends evolved into a small operation focused on quality over quantity. We limit group sizes, train our guides rigorously, and choose routes based on ecological integrity rather than convenience.

Our name comes from the maple forests and wetland ecosystems we protect. Every expedition includes a conservation component, whether that is leave-no-trace practices, invasive species education, or habitat restoration discussions.

Our Guiding Philosophy

We believe the best expeditions happen when participants feel safe enough to be curious. Our guides are trained not just in navigation and first aid, but in facilitation, active listening, and ecological interpretation. We adapt pace and content to group interest rather than forcing a predetermined script.

Safety and Responsibility

All guides hold wilderness first aid certification and undergo annual training in emergency protocols. We carry satellite communication devices on every expedition, maintain up-to-date weather monitoring systems, and have established evacuation procedures for all routes.

Environmental responsibility is non-negotiable. We follow established trails, respect wildlife viewing distances, pack out all waste, and educate participants on minimal-impact practices. Our permits support local conservation initiatives.

Local Knowledge, Global Perspective

Many of our guides grew up in the regions we explore. Others have relocated here after years of international guiding experience. This combination brings both deep local knowledge and diverse perspectives on conservation, tourism ethics, and cross-cultural communication.

We partner with Indigenous-led tourism initiatives and ensure that cultural heritage tours are designed and delivered by knowledge keepers from the communities whose stories we share. We do not speak for others, we create space for authentic voices.
